Installation:

TOOLS REQUIRED:

  • Screwdriver
  • ½" and ⅛" drill bits for sheet metal drill
  • Sheet metal shears or saw to cut metal duct
  • Junction box if required by local code

ENCLOSED PARTS:

  • (8) OF 5/32" sheet metal screws
  • 2 wire connectors
  • Paper templates indicating where to cut existing duct work and locating proper position for drilling holes

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:

The ROBIN HOOD Air Booster is designed to increase air flow of both hot and cold air in any forced air duct system. It will put more hot and cold air in any room you designate and can be installed to operate only when you want it, thus saving energy. It is installed in the branch duct serving the individual room (not the main supply duct) and performs best when installed near the outlet end of the branch duct. It is available in various size diameters so that it can be installed in ducts most common dimensions (6", 8", 10", 12", and 14"). The housing of ROBIN HOOD is made of standard galvanized duct material with a female receptacle collar on the incoming end and a male "crimped" collar on the outgoing end so that it can be fitted right into a cutout section of standard round duct. Installation can be made easily in round, square, and rectangular ducts by following these simple instructions: (see figure 1 below)

Install the ROBIN HOOD in the space provided with the fan blades facing the room to be serviced. (See figure 2) if separating at a joint is not practical, separate wherever desired in the branch duct.   You must "crimp" or make a series of 1" slits in the end of the cut duct closest to the main blower so that it can be tapered to fit into the female collar of ROBIN HOOD.  The male crimped end of ROBIN HOOD will fit right into the other side of the cut section, closest to the room. (See figure3)  Secure your ROBIN HOOD by wrapping duct tape around both ends.

TO INSTALL FLEX DUCT

Simply slide the flex duct over each side of ROBIN HOOD and secure with duct tape or plastic straps.  Support flex duct with sheet metal straps or hanger wire.   Fan blades should be closest to room register.

ELECTRICAL CONNECTION

The ROBIN HOOD should be connected to 115 volt power source only. The installation kit comes equipped for flexible cord connection, which may not be acceptable by local authorities. To conform to local codes it may be necessary to attach a junction box at the point where the wires extend through the duct. Where ROBIN HOOD is installed as part of a heating duct system, electrical supply connections should be suitable for 75°C. temperature

POWER CONTROL OPTIONS:

  1. Connect directly to 115V for continuous operation.
  2. Wire through an ON/OFF switch located in a convenient place.
(example: A wall switch in the room to be served)
  3. Wire through a thermostat installed in the room to be served.
(this provides for automatic on/off room temperature control)
  4. Wire in parallel to existing blower. Be sure motor is rated 115 VAC, single phase 60 cycles. Blower motor controller cannot be variable speed tap type, solid state speed control or any other type not designated for dual motor control.
  5. Wire to 115V through an auxiliary switch, (pressure or "sail" type) which will automatically energize ROBIN HOOD whenever blower operates.
